John Deere Kids Ride on Tractor with Trailer
You know, some kids are not interested in riding typical 4-wheelers such as ATVs, quads, jeeps, etc. They prefer bigger vehicles like tractors, trucks, and trailers. If this is the case with your child, then you might want to have a look at the Peg Perego John Deere kids ride on tractor with trailer (what a mouthful!) displayed below.

John Deere Ground Force Tractor with Trailer Ratings and Feedback
Performance and Handling Rating: 5 out of 5
The John Deere toy tractor has a couple of 165W motors and they provide sufficient power for the vehicle to tackle all kinds of terrains including snow, heavily grassy areas, and it can even rip through mulch and dirt. Of course it also goes well over gravel yard and concrete pavement. How about inclines? Sure, up and down it goes without hiccups, although it’s best to avoid climbing inclines that are extremely steep.
Its terrain capability is certainly impressive and credit goes not only to the powerful motors, but also the vehicle’s base as well as tires which are very solid. I hear some folks are not too keen on the tractor’s tire traction which they think is a bit off. I can’t agree because the traction seems pretty good to me. I noticed the grip is quite strong and it certainly prevents the vehicle from spinning out even when riding through a muddy patch.

Handling is easy and with careful supervision, it didn’t take very long for my 4 year old to get comfortable with the steering, as well as accelerating and braking. He had some trouble learning how to reverse the tractor though. Yeah you read that right. This John Deere ride on tractor for kids can actually reverse and on top of that, it has two acceleration gears. First gear goes 2-1/4 mph and the second one, 4-1/2 mph. And you know what; the second forward gear goes pretty fast!
Design and Durability Rating: 2 out of 5
I love the realistic look of this ride on toy tractor. It is rugged, cute, and the paintjob is excellent – almost like the real thing. The forward reverse gear is easily accessible just right below the steering wheel and it’s pretty solid. So far, the one I bought has a durable gear shift and doesn’t wiggle, although I’ve read reviews claiming that the gear is easily broken.
An actual FM radio is built right into the vehicle and your child can easily access the radio because it’s located just opposite the gear.

The seat is comfortable and adjustable which means it’s able to accommodate growth. And to make things easier for a kid to handle the tractor, both brake and acceleration are done via the same pedal.
Plus you can even remove the trailer for smoother maneuvering. The trailer is well constructed by the way, and my son loves hauling stuff in it. You know, things like pebbles, sand, little branches, and even road kills…I’m kidding! The only issue I have is the battery placement. It’s a hassle to access. You have to undergo the tedious process of disconnecting the battery from the chamber, then loosening the mechanism that’s holding the battery with a screwdriver…Bah! What a pain!
Alright, so design-wise, apart from the battery placement, the manufacturer did a pretty good job. However, this well designed John Deere tractor with trailer has some durability issues. For one, the smoke stack was broken not long after I purchased the product. Same goes with the black colored front grill. The bloody thing can’t seem to stay put so it’s always falling off.
Also the trailer coupling which is supposed to secure the trailer to the back of the tractor tends to wiggle a lot when the vehicle is in motion. Eventually it becomes loose and you have to reinsert the coupling back into its hole. It’s a hassle and if it were up to me, I’d simply lose the trailer for good, but as I said earlier, my son loves carrying things in the trailer.
Assembly Difficulty Rating: 2 out of 5
If you ask me, this kids ride on tractor is quite difficult to assemble, not to mention confusing. There are 61 parts in total. Yes, the massive number of parts can be overwhelming and it doesn’t help that the assembling manual found in the box is confusing and not very user-friendly. It contains step-by-step assembling illustrations, but some of the hand-drawn images aren’t clear.
Furthermore, the instructional texts are not on the same page as the pictures. They printed the step-by-step instructional texts on a different page! What the heck? I think they should’ve placed the images and texts together on the same page.
Fun Factor Rating: 4 out of 5
My son absolutely loves driving this John Deere ride on tractor. I purchased it around 8 months ago, and he’s still crazy about it. He loves fiddling with the FM radio, driving the toy tractor here and there while hauling things that he picked up in the yard. I had to knock off a point from the rating due to the trailer’s flimsy coupling which spoils the fun a bit.
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5
All told, I think this a decent ride on toy tractor for kids. Not very durable, and thankfully so far, the durability issues are cosmetic. None that could actually make the vehicle stop functioning altogether. Still, the front grill and smoke stack should hold up better, considering the price of the product. Would I purchase it again? Sure. It’s a good toy and boys seem to love it a lot.
