Power Wheels Battery Care Guidelines
Power wheels batteries aren’t exactly cheap. At many retail stores, a mere 6-volt battery costs $60. Prices are generally cheaper online, but not that cheap. At the time of writing, Amazon sells a 6-volt for $37.
60 bucks or 37 bucks, those prices are pretty high for a 6-volt battery to be used for powering a toddler’s toy vehicle. To make the most of your hard-earned cash, it’s important that you take good care of the battery. The better you care for it, the longer it’s going to last.
Follow the Power Wheels battery care guidelines detailed below in order to maximize the life of the battery.
1) First time charge must take at least 18 hours…
Power wheels 6V battery charge time before being used for the first time is between 18 to 30 hours – please be mindful of that. I know a number of parents who would only charge for 10 to 12 hours first time. That’s a sure-fire way to decrease the battery life.
2) Adhere to the 14-hour charge rule…
Charge battery after each use and each charge must take at least 14 hours. Also note that it doesn’t matter how long the vehicle was used, charging period must be 14 hours minimum. So even if the vehicle was driven for only 5 minutes, the 14-hour charge rule still applies!
3) Careful Not to Overcharge…
Overcharging also decreases a battery’s lifespan. It’s best not to allow the charge to run for more than 30 hours. Keep it simple: 18 hours initial charge and 14 hours after each use. Sticking to these charging times will ensure the battery holds up for a long while.
4) Adhere to The Once a Month Charge Rule…
Let’s say your kid didn’t use the Power Wheels for an entire month…does this mean the battery requires no recharge? Nope, it still requires a recharge.
Even if the vehicle was kept in the basement for the whole month, a battery recharge is still in order at least once.
5) Be Mindful of Storage Temperature…
The 6-volt Power Wheels battery is fairly durable, but that doesn’t mean you can store it wherever you like. You got to be mindful of storage temperatures. If you want the battery to keep ticking for a long time, ensure the storage location does not exceed 75° F or below -10° F.
6) Secure It…
Every Power Wheels Lil’ Quad has a battery compartment underneath the seat complete with a retainer to keep the battery secured. So make sure you use the retainer. Don’t just put the battery in without placing the retainer over it. If you don’t place the retainer over it, the battery will move freely in the compartment and that’s likely going to ruin the battery.
7) Upright and No Discharge…
The battery’s position must be upright while being charged and do not leave it in a discharged condition. The battery will end up ruined if it is left in a discharged condition.
Okay folks. These are the essential guidelines for optimal power wheels battery care. Always remember that Power Wheels 6V battery charge time is at least 18 hours before being utilized for the first time and subsequent charges is 14 hours minimum. Other guidelines are also important so please be mindful of them as well.
