Best 4 Wheeler for Kids
I was looking for a good 4-wheeler for kids for my boy Eric, and after a very extensive research (which only took an hour actually, but it felt pretty long!), I decided to put up the cash for the ATV KFX by Fisher Price. Here’s a picture of it, plus a video so you can see it in action.
As you can see in the video, this ride-on is pretty cool. Eric loves riding all over the lawn and sometimes he gets so excited, he would forget to brake before switching to another direction and that worries me. Fortunately, this battery powered kids four wheeler is equipped with a couple of safety features which I really like.
So that’s why I think this ATV KFX is the best 4 wheeler for kids, especially from a cost vs. features standpoint. The two safety features pretty much sold me on this model. The ATV KFX is a really good 4-wheeler for kids and it has these mind-easing safety capabilities.
1) Safe Braking System
2) Slow and Moderate Speed Settings
What the first one does is it stops the 4 wheeler from moving once Eric removes his foot from the accelerator. The second feature enables Eric to ride the vehicle in two different speed settings. The slow setting is obviously safer, but boring. This setting allows the 4 wheeler to accelerate at 2½ mph, while the faster one is 5 mph which is the speed that Eric has grown comfortable with.
Obviously you’ll want your child to start with the slow setting, which is the default by the way, and then later on, progress to the faster setting. Changing the speed setting is easy enough. It is accessible via the front portion of the seat. Remove that portion and you’ll discover two connectors which you have to put together in order to increase the speed. If you wish to revert to the previous speed setting, simply disconnect the connectors.
Easy To Assemble Battery Powered Kids Four Wheeler
Yes, it is very easy to assemble. If I’m not mistaken, it took me roughly 45 minutes to put the whole thing together. The parts were easy to identify and the instruction manual that came in the box was extremely helpful. The manual will show you how to put the vehicle together in about 17 steps.
Battery Power
I think the battery power is a little lame. You have to charge it for about 15 or so hours, and that would last approximately 2 to 3 hours. Not good enough, so I decided to buy a spare battery so Eric could enjoy additional riding time.
Conclusion
For the money, I would say this ATV KFX is the best 4 wheeler for kids due to its great safety capabilities, durability, and ease of assembly. It has pretty decent set of tires enabling the vehicle to ride over a variety of terrain. Also, it’s very easy on the eyes. The only issue I have with it, so far, is the fairly weak battery power vs. long recharging time.
If you have the time, do read a few children’s toy magazines because they often provide detailed information and advice on how to locate good 4-wheeler for kids. These days, it can be pretty difficult to source for some decent quality children’s four wheelers due to the influx of China-made toys. Of course, not all China-made four wheelers are questionable in quality, but the vast majority of them are hands down, awful!
The truth of the matter is the best 4 wheeler for kids can be found in America. However, many parents prefer units that are made in China because they are dirt cheap. Last week, I was at a flea market in Boston and I saw a China-made battery powered kids four wheeler with a price tag of only 20 dollars! Yes, the price is cheap, but the quality is probably very poor.
Judging by the display model, I could tell that the China-made four wheeler toy won’t last very long. It was badly designed, the body didn’t appear durable to me, and who knows how long the battery would last? I reckon you wouldn’t be able to recharge the battery more than 5 times.
The price is simply unreal - only 20 dollars? My God, there’s no chance in heaven one would be able to acquire a good 4-wheeler for kids for a measly price of 20 dollars. For that amount of money, you could probably buy your kids a couple packs of die-cast vehicles. However, a decently made ride-on four wheeler for just 20 dollars? Nope, I don’t think so…
The reality is if you want the best 4 wheeler for kids, you have to be willing to spend around 200 – 300 dollars. You’ll find plenty of top quality four wheelers in that price range, and they’re manufactured by widely reputable toy companies such as Peg Perego, Fishe-Price, and Razor. These companies have been around for some time and most of the toys they churned out over the years have garnered positive feedback from parents and toy experts.
So if possible, you might want to avoid purchasing children’s four wheelers that are made in China. Pony up the extra cash for a model that’s made here in the USA. True, the American-made ones are more expensive, but you’ll be assured of their quality, and they tend to last a whole lot longer.
I wish all the parents in this great country called the United States, all the success in locating the best 4 wheeler for kids. Our children are extremely precious, and thus they deserve only the best!
