12V Yamaha Blue Raptor ATV Ride-On for Children
After close to three weeks of intensive research, my wife and I narrowed our choices to 2 ride-on toys: One is the electric Razor Dirt Quad by…well, Razor! And the other one – which we ended up buying, is the 12v Yamaha Blue Raptor ATV ride-on for children, presented below in all its cool blue glory. Actually, one of the main reasons why we decided to settle on the raptor is because of its appearance. Our son, Tom LOVES the look of it. The red colored Razor Dirt Quad looks a bit on the bland side.

Okay first things first, before you actually go out and buy the vehicle (or order it online); please note that it is designed for ages 3 to 5 maybe 6 years old. It depends on the size of the child. I’ve seen 8 year old kids riding it without any issues. The weight limit is pretty respectable – 130 pounds max load so some 8 year olds can definitely ride it, so long as a child’s legs aren’t long enough that he or she isn’t able to sit and operate the vehicle comfortably.
Since the maximum capacity the Yamaha Blue Raptor is able to handle is 130 pounds, you might think that it could carry 2 little kids at once. Well, that is possible. My fishing buddy Lee has a couple of cute 4-year old twins and I’ve seen them riding the Raptor simultaneously. They had helmets on and I didn’t notice any problems – the vehicle went about the yard smoothly even with the additional weight. Also, the twins didn’t fall of or anything. In my opinion, the 12v Yamaha Blue Raptor ATV ride-on for children is a very decent battery operated, starter four wheeler – just that some kids may outgrow it rather quickly.

So, Tom – our kid, has been riding around the vehicle for the last week or so, and he’s been having a ton of joy with it. The vehicle runs like a dream. We let Tom drive it around our backyard with lots of grass, asphalt pavements, and even some dirt roads near our home. Learning how to control the vehicle is extremely easy. It didn’t take long for Tom to get the hang of it. The handling is ultra responsive and the foot pedal control is equally responsive as well. The two speed options are perfect. First option is the slow one which is 2.5 mph, but once your young one is confident enough, you could notch up the gear to 5 mph. If your child wishes to reverse, the vehicle goes 2.5 mph.
And you know what else? It’s possible to prevent your child from using the 5 mph setting. There’s a way to lock it out and you can do so by putting a screw in a hole situated next to the speed shifter. First you set the speed to the slow position (2.5 mph), and then get the screw into said hole, and just screw it in. Now your child won’t be able to shift to the faster gear, until you give him or her, the okay to do so. Well okay, you’re going to have to unscrew it yourself, and the screws are all included in the box.
While mentioning screws, I thought I should point out that it’s not hard at all to assemble the Yamaha Blue Raptor ATV ride-on for children. It took me less than half an hour to get it done. The battery goes right under the Raptor’s seat. You lift the seat, put in the battery (or remove to recharge), plug in the connectors, and set. Initially- that is before operating the Yamaha Raptor for the first time, its battery requires at least 18 hours charging period. After the initial charge, each time the vehicle is used, a recharge period of 14 hours is required. A fully charged battery would allow your child run the vehicle around 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours. I think that’s good enough.
Charger is included. When you charge the battery, you might want to pay attention to the indicator colors just in case. Be sure it isn’t flashing green and red as that means there’s something wrong going on. If it’s charging like normal, it should be all-out red, while green indicates it is fully charged and ready for action! Speaking of action, this toy vehicle features this all-action, ATV revving sound effects which can be triggered via button. Don’t worry. It isn’t loud or anything, so the lack of volume control isn’t a problem. It just gives that, real authentic feel is all. Tom appreciates it a lot as he often pushes the sound button to produce those roaring sounds.

Final Thoughts
All-in-all, I’m absolutely pleased that I purchased this Yamaha Blue Raptor ATV ride-on for children, the wife is pleased, and Tom in particular, is SUPER PLEASED. So far, there’s just one little thing that displeases me – it’s the fact that I have to unscrew the Raptor’s seat in order to get a hold of the battery for a recharge. It’s kind of annoying sometimes. Other than that, this toy’s a winner. If you wish to get a hold of one or want to check out other reviews maybe, feel free to do so by following the link below.
